Fundamentally, your budget determines how large, intricate, comfortable, sculpturally wild, detailed and densely woven your web will be.
Every dollar you invest into your web allows us to flex our artistic and engineering talents to ever greater heights of creativity and skill.
No matter how much you choose to invest, we will ensure your web is engineered to be safe, strong, magical and comfortable.
Typical prices can range from $1,000-$1,800 per spool installed, with a typical spool being $1,250. This cost covers Materials, Labor, Travel, Weaving, and Hardware.
Spool examples:
1,000 ft. spools of paracord,
200'-300' spools of climbing/arborist rope.
300' spools of climbing webbing.
It varies project to project. We use only high quality, durable materials.
A smaller web might use 5-10 spools.
A larger web might use 20-100+ spools.
The price per spool depends on a variety of factors in each installation. Every circumstance is unique. These may include:
Do we need to rig 5 levels of scaffolding or can we use a stepladder?
Are we concreting steel posts into the ground or working with trees?
Are our anchor points in wood? around trees? Do we need to bore holes into a granite cliffside or boulder? concrete? steel?
Is it anchored between a few straight trunked trees? Is it anchored between the twisting branches of an ancient oak with 15 branches?
Is it woven into the canopies of multiple trees with a rope bridge in between?
Are we working 5 feet or 50 feet off the ground?
Are we on level ground, or in a deep ravine or off the edge of a cliff?
Do we need to bring an arborist in to mount lines 90 feet up in a tree?
Is it possible to use ladders? Do we need to rent a scissor lift?
Do we need to rig extra safety lines and tie off with climbing harnesses?
Do we need to run a steel cable somewhere?
Do you want to use kevlar reinforced rope?
Do you want to have the entire thing glow in the dark/is it an uncommon or rare color?
Do you want the entire thing woven from thick tubular webbing or paracord? Webbing costs more per foot etc.
Are we installing 50 steel eye bolts? 100?
Are we using indoor hammock anchors instead of eyebolts?
Do we need specialized rock climbing anchors to work with stone?
Do you want large metal rings as portals or entirely rope?
Are we building a frame? Putting posts into the ground?
Do we need 15 custom made wooden tree protection blocks or 75?
Do we need to fabricate custom steel brackets for an odd space?
Are we flying a team of 3 out to Peru or Thailand? Or can we take a short road trip?
Are we camping on site? Or do we need hotel rooms in Manhattan?
In many cases, if you can provide reasonable accommodations (if you have land to camp on, an AirBNB, or guest house etc.) That reduces our overall costs and that savings passes on to you as our client. Certain areas, LA, New York City, London etc. are inherently more costly to live and work in and we will need to adjust pricing accordingly.
As you can see from these questions there are numerous factors that inform our pricing structure. During our consultation, we will brainstorm and candidly discuss the entire process to create mutual clarity. Our organizer will guide you smoothly through the planning and details.
We strive for transparency and trust in our business relationships. As we orchestrate the weaving of your web, we will ensure you receive maximum value, joy, and return on your investment.
For your consultation you'll primarily be communicating with Ha'né, the founder and main logistician of Why Knot Webworks. Please fill out the form below, and we will get back to you shortly.
Please go into detail, measurements (even rough) are supremely helpful.
Once we have the basic information, we'll reach out to schedule a free consultation. This will be via video call or phone.
If you are located relatively near to Portland, OR or Knoxville, TN we can probably swing an in person assessment, which if possible is the best option.
We love photos and videos! If we can't assess in person, these are necessary for making accurate estimates.
After the consultation and planning phase, we will have a firm quote to work with and you will receive your invoice with the terms of our agreement.
We will be able to give you a few month timing window, which will depend on how far out we are booked; and as that draws closer we will be in communication and can tie down an exact start date.
To secure a spot in our books and on our calendar we require a 20% down payment on the agreed upon quote.
-Three weeks before our projected start date another 30% is due. We will finalize material orders (ideally we will ship them to your address) and book travel and lodging if necessary.
-When your web is woven to the halfway point, another 40% is due.
-The final 10% is due upon completion.
We look forward to working with you, and are honored by your choice to weave with us.
